Are you considering a mommy makeover to get your body back to pre-baby shape? It’s a lot to think about, but if you are – you’re on the right track.  A mommy makeover can help correct the physical changes that result after pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding — changes which a fitness routine can’t improve, like stretch marks, excess skin, and overstretched abdominal muscles.

After determining which procedures you’d like included in your treatment plan, it’s important to maintain the results you’ve invested in. There are three key practices you can implement to ensure your treatment outcomes last for many years to come. They are:

1. Establishing and Maintaining Great Physical Health & Fitness

Regular exercise enhances heart health, increases the immune system, and prepares your body to react positively to surgical stress. A healthy diet, rich in proteins, fresh vegetables and fruits will ensure your body receives the nutrients necessary to promote quick and proper healing. It will also help control tissue inflammation.

Patients who are in good physical shape recover faster and are happier with their results than patients who are not. While it’s necessary to go to extremes, such as preparing to run a marathon, make it a goal to get close to your normal or goal body weight before surgery. The benefits are well worth the effort. They include:

Lower Risk of Complications

When you’re in optimal health, incisions heal promptly, there is minimal chance of excess bleeding because blood pressure is at optimal levels, and chances of infection are minimized.

Recovery is as Speedy as Possible

Your healing capacity is at an optimal level when you’re in good physical shape. You have more energy before and after surgery, you will be able to move around quicker and decrease the risk of clotting, and the natural healing mechanisms will be working at peak performance. With a shorter recovery period, you will be able to return to your daily life without too much delay.

Improved Treatment Planning

When you are at your ideal weight, your surgeon will be able to understand your body contours with more clarity. This knowledge will allow them to create and execute a surgical plan which has a high degree of success. Your results will be natural-looking and rewarding.

2. Sustain a Healthy Lifestyle After Surgery

Preparing for surgery is important to achieve the goals you set for the procedure. Just as important, however, is maintaining a healthy lifestyle after the surgical and recovery processes.

Maintaining proper diet and continued exercise will keep your body lean and healthy. You should avoid smoking (if you were a smoker before surgery) and drinking during recovery. Any form of nicotine will upset the after-surgery healing process, and alcohol is a depressant which may impede the positive frame of mind necessary for a successful recovery.

3. Choose a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon

It’s critical to understand your doctor’s training before committing to a treatment plan. The best way to do this is to determine if they are board-certified, how many patients they have treated, and what previous patients had to say in online testimonials. Many who label themselves as plastic or cosmetic surgeons are trained in dermatology, family practice, or internal medicine and not trained as plastic surgeons.

With insurance reimbursements declining, many physicians are attempting to break into the cosmetic surgical field. Some take a simple weekend course to start their surgical practice.

With the intricacies and nuances of each procedure commonly used as part of a mommy makeover, the job requires the skill and experience of a qualified surgeon. Board certification by The American Board of Plastic Surgery identifies the surgeon as a highly trained and skilled surgeon in Plastic Surgery.

It also guarantees the surgeon is current on all procedures and techniques available to ensure your safety and a successful outcome.

Anyone who has been pregnant can tell you the experience creates bodily changes, including a loss of breast volume, lax abdominal muscles, loose skin, and stubborn fat. These are natural and common changes that some experience to a greater degree than others.

Even if these are common to most mothers, there are solutions to be found in aesthetic medicine that counteract these physical changes and help patients enjoy new-found confidence.

Breast Volume and Skin Firmness

Many patients see dramatic changes in these areas after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Loss of volume and size may result in breasts which sit lower on the chest wall. Breast surgery options are available to restore breast appearance and help patients more easily find bras and tops that fit.

Breast Lift

If your breasts have lost fullness, particularly in the upper region, or have drooped with the development of loose skin, a breast lift may be recommended as part of your cosmetic treatment plan. To determine if you require a breast lift, your surgeon may check if your nipples fall below the natural crease of your breast during your consultation.

Many women opt for a breast lift as a standalone procedure, while others opt for comprehensive surgery with additional procedures to improve breast profile and projection.

Dr. Dreyfuss utilizes different techniques to lift and recontour breast tissue, eliminating excess skin from the nipple to the lower area of the breast. Repositioning of the areola is possible for a balanced and lifted appearance.

Breast Augmentation

Breast enhancement has been pursued by millions of cosmetic patients around the world to restore body shape and curves after pregnancy and breastfeeding. The breast surgery restores volume, enhances cleavage, and helps patients feel confident in any type of clothing.

Because of the natural feel and look of modern breast implants, augmentation can correct asymmetry, reposition the nipples, and increase volume. Breast augmentation is becoming one of the most customizable aesthetic procedures because of continued advancements in technique and technology.

Breast Lift with Implants

Some patients require the benefits of breast augmentation and breast lift. This combination will result in an elevated breast presence with a full, natural look and feel.

Liposuction

Liposuction is the most popular aesthetic surgery performed today. The procedure is a body contouring treatment which can target certain body parts like abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, upper arms and back. Because pregnancy may leave unwanted fat pads in one or more of these areas, liposuction is a common procedure for mothers looking to reshape their body.

This treatment may be used as a standalone procedure or combined with other procedures to create a full-body mommy makeover.

CoolSculpting

This non-invasive body contouring procedure is an effective substitute for liposuction that slims areas of the body with minor or moderate exercise-resistant fat. The treatment uses freezing technology to quickly and comfortably remove excess fat pads without downtime. Patients realize results within two weeks after the body naturally expels the dead fat cells for the body.  Results continue to mature months after treatment.

Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure which restores a taut and sleek midsection. After childbirth, abdominal muscles may become separated and lose structure, resulting in sagging skin and the inability to effectively tone your stomach with core exercises. A tummy tuck will reinforce underlying abdominal muscles while removing excess skin and fat, resulting in a lean and firm abdomen.

Liposuction may be used in conjunction with abdominoplasty to remove any excess fat pads and sculpt the midsection for desired results.

Mommy Makeover

A mommy makeover is designed to treat multiple areas of the body affected by pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is a versatile procedure which utilizes different body contouring procedures, completed concurrently. The most popular of these surgeries are breast surgery, tummy tuck, and liposuction.

Other procedures like a Brazilian butt lift, upper arm lift, and thigh lift can be part of any mommy makeover treatment plan if needed.

Skin Care

Because of the hormonal changes common with pregnancy, skin tone and texture can be affected. Issues like redness, melasma, and acne breakouts are common after-effects and can be treated with a variety of procedure.

At Dreyfuss Plastic Surgery, our medical dermatology services include skin care procedures to resolve these problems and include ultherapy, microdermabrasion, and laser genesis.

It’s spring and the warmer months are quickly approaching. This time of year, social events and special occasions come in full swing. Class reunions, weddings, and graduations all include photos and visiting with friends and family you haven’t seen for some time.

When planning for these occasions, you want to prepare by looking your best. Unfortunately, when weight fluctuation or pregnancy has left your mid-section soft and sagging, and excess skin has made your favorite outfits impossible to wear comfortably, these events become more of a burden than a celebration.

But that doesn’t have to be the reality. Aesthetic medicine can help firm your tummy and present you with the attractive, shapely contour you want to show off.

Abdominoplasty to the Rescue

A tummy tuck will give you that slender, taut abdomen you so richly deserve. Let’s face it, diet and exercise have been part of your routine for years, only to leave you wanting for more contour and less flab. The stubborn fat pads and excess skin are not only unsightly to your eyes; they make you uncomfortable in anything you wear outside of your sweatpants or Pajamas.

So, prepare to look your best with a tight tummy suited for your favorite outfit when planning for that special event and beyond.

Vacation Planning

Although reunions and weddings come around on occasion, many families plan summer vacations every year. Too often, these plans are influenced by what you feel comfortable wearing. You avoid beaches or cruises because wearing a swimsuit is too embarrassing. Instead, you drag the family to some destination that fits better with clothes chosen to hide your figure.

A tummy tuck can prepare your body for swimsuits which flatter and turn heads. You will be amazed at what this can do for your psyche and self-esteem. Your confidence will soar as will the enjoyment of the entire family when cruising along the ocean, or body surfing on the shore.

What’s the Process?

Planning to include a tummy tuck in special event preparations? Start by scheduling a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. Here in Chicago, many physicians perform the procedure, but few are as qualified as board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. David Dreyfuss.

At your consultation, Dr. Dreyfuss will review your medical history and ask questions on why you want the procedure. If you both agree the surgery is right for you, he develops a surgical plan with you present. At the consultation, you will receive specific instructions to prepare you for the upcoming surgery.

On the day of surgery, you should bring a friend or family member to help you home and take care of you for a couple of days. Your recovery will last for a few to several weeks, depending on how well your body tends to heal.  You will be sidelined from your daily routine for about two weeks, gradually returning to normal activities as you recover.

After six to eight weeks, you should realize your results. Although swelling may take longer to subside completely, you should see a marked improvement in your abdominal contour, with a smoother skin presence as well.

During the Procedure

The procedure includes making an incision on the abdomen across the pubic area. Then Dr. Dreyfuss removes stubborn fat pads and excess skin and reinforces underlying muscle tissue with sutures. Liposuction is also sometimes performed to reduce fullness of the upper abdomen and excess fat on the sides, resulting in a more sculpted look. The incisions are then closed with fine sutures to help keep any scarring to fine lines which eventually fade.

You will find yourself in a recovery room when you wake. Here, we monitor and evaluate your progress. Then, your friend or family member can take you home.

Recovery

Considering the recovery period is essential in timing your tummy tuck to be ready for any event or occasion where you need to look your best. Although healing varies from patient to patient, a good benchmark for tummy tuck recovery is six to eight weeks.

So, if you are looking to utilize this amazing body contouring procedure to look your best for an upcoming event or vacation, plan wisely by giving yourself at least two months after surgery.

Results

After your surgery, you will enjoy the results your exercise routine and strict diet did not produce. Your tummy will be tight and firm, much like when you were young. You should be able to wear clothes which cling to your body without embarrassment and wear a wider selection of swimsuits and summer attire.

To learn more about timing your tummy tuck procedure, call Dr. Dreyfuss at 815-806-9400 or schedule a consultation today.

Spring is upon us, and the weather is about to turn. That’s right, grass will turn green and flowers will bloom. For many, this is a great time of year. A time to discard the coats and winter boots and shop for that summer wardrobe.

There are colorful dresses to buy with light fabric to show off that shapely figure. Well – that’s if the figure is shapely to show off. And then you probably need another bathing suit or two, maybe that bikini you’ve wanted to buy. But if the body is not ready, you might want to hold off on that too. Or – you can schedule a consultation at Dreyfuss Plastic Surgery to get your core tight before summer.

Don’t Wait

Spring is here, so don’t wait much longer if you want to achieve a tighter tummy by summer. Make the call today and get the process started. The first step is a consultation. This visit is where you and Dr. Dreyfuss get to know one another, and you can learn more about the procedure.

It also gives him a chance to understand your medical situation and the reasons you want the procedure. With this information, he can move forward with a surgical plan.

What a Tummy Tuck Does

Abdominoplasty is an aesthetic procedure that contours the abdominal area. There are two popular versions, a mini-tummy tuck and a full tummy tuck. The full tummy tuck is more invasive and requires a longer recovery. Here, Dr. Dreyfuss creates an incision across the pubic area from hip bone to hip bone.

With these incisions, he can remove unwanted fat pads and any excess skin that sags. He also tightens the underlying abdominal muscles with sutures resulting in a tight and firm tummy. Recovery can be up to four weeks when incisions heal and swelling subsides.

For patients who require less work, but need to remove excess skin below the navel, a mini tummy tuck may be suitable. This technique is less invasive than the full abdominoplasty and requires less recovery time. The mini-tummy tuck will remove excess skin and stretch marks, so you can feel confident in the more revealing summer apparel. And for an ideally sculpted waistline, both full abdominoplasty and a mini tummy tuck can also be performed with liposuction to reduce excess fat on the upper abdomen and the sides.

Tummy Tuck Results

Many Chicagoans have had weight fluctuations or pregnancies which have changed their body contour. This damage is especially true around the tummy. Loose skin and stretched muscle do not add up to the most attractive mid-section, and diet and exercise can only do so much.

That’s where Dr. Dreyfuss and his team can help you achieve the body contour you want for this summer. Your figure will improve with a tighter midsection by eliminating stubborn fat and sagging skin. You will also enjoy a smooth skin presence, with underlying tissue tight and less skin stretched across a smaller tummy.

Your clothes will fit better and you might drop an inch or two. But you shouldn’t think of a tummy tuck as a weight loss treatment – It is a body contouring surgery designed to help finish the job diet and exercise couldn’t finish.

Getting Started

The first step in your journey to a taut and firm tummy is giving us a call to schedule a tummy tuck consultation. It’s that easy. Then you will meet with board-certified Dr. Dreyfuss to get all the information you need to determine if a tummy tuck is for you.

He will perform a physical exam and tell you what he thinks will be the best course to follow. If you decide to move forward, we will schedule a surgery date and you will receive pre-operation instructions.

Enjoying Your Results

Before you know it, you’ll be wearing jeans that accentuate your new form, and blouses that show you off without embarrassment. You will have a new-found confidence and self-esteem, and it will show in the way you carry yourself. Simply put, you’ll feel better about how you look, and it will show.

For more information about how you can contour your core and enjoy a tighter tummy this summer, call Dreyfuss Plastic Surgery at 815-806-9400 or schedule a consultation today.

Dr. Dreyfuss has performed countless Mommy Makeover procedures and has helped many women regain their pre-baby bodies and confidence. Recently, Dr. Dreyfuss shared his expertise with eHealth Radio!

Tune into the interview with host Eric Michaels & Dr. David Dreyfuss to learn the answers to these questions:

  1. What is a Mommy Makeover?
  2. What are the most popular procedures?
  3. Can all the procedures be performed together or is it better to have them done individually?
  4. What makes a person a good candidate for mommy makeover surgery? Should women wait until they are done having children to have a mommy makeover?
  5. What is the recovery process like? Are there side effects or potential complications?

The key to a sustained fitness regimen is momentum. That’s when fitness activity is consistent day in and day out. The fuel which drives this consistency is experiencing results regularly. Unfortunately, when we embark on a diet and exercise fitness plan, results are often too slow in coming.

We may start with motivation; going to the gym daily, eating superfoods, and drinking protein shakes. However, when there is little to show for this sacrifice, we revert to the habits which gave us the body we are trying to improve. We shy away from our gym’s fitness machines (including the front door) and find ourselves eating fast food and convenient store pastries.

But if it were possible to see an inch or two off the waistline, and fat pads diminished in those trouble areas, encouragement would soon follow. Proper diet and exercise would begin to take on more meaning, and you’d get a good head start on your fitness journey!

Start with Results

Liposuction is an aesthetic procedure which eliminates excess fat pads to improve your body’s contour. It is effective in diminishing pesky bulges around the back, buttocks, abdomen, thighs, love handles, cheeks, and chin.

Combined with a healthy lifestyle, this body shaping procedure can work wonders in providing a body which will turn heads and make you feel sensual and attractive. It can also be a jump start to your fitness efforts by providing quick results and increasing your enthusiasm to get fit.

What Liposuction Is

Liposuction is a minimally invasive cosmetic surgical procedure which is designed to remove unwanted fat from target areas. This outpatient procedure implements a small tube (cannula) through tiny incisions to extract fat by saturation and suction.

The results are a pleasing improvement to reshaping specific areas of the body. Complications are rare, and the surgery is safe when done by a competent board-certified plastic surgeon. Recovery is relatively short, and the desired outcome becomes apparent within a couple of weeks.

What Liposuction Isn’t

Liposuction is not a weight loss treatment. Patients considering liposuction should be within 30% of their normal weight and in good health. The procedure will, however, make the targeted area shapelier for a more pleasing figure.

Enjoying Your Fit and Trim Figure

There has been a recent push of non-surgical procedures to achieve cosmetic goals. With the advent of less invasive procedures like injectables and laser technology, surgery often is seen as a last resort option when looking to improve aesthetic concerns. However, liposuction has seen a significant up tick in popularity over the last couple of years because people are looking for quick results with little downtime.

Liposuction fits this bill and more. It’s minimally-invasive with quick results. These benefits are just what many patients are looking for when seeking an improved body contour. So, when fitting into that special dress or vacation bikini is critically important in a few weeks, liposuction may be a viable solution. But when a commitment to physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle is just as important, liposuction may be crucial.

Think of fitting into those jeans which have been in the back of your closet for years or wearing the flattering dress of your youth. Or maybe regaining the joy of shopping with friends and looking great in the outfit you have desired for months. Liposuction can be the start of regaining that youthful figure you have been trying to achieve for several years.

Where Do You Start

Although liposuction is a minimally invasive aesthetic procedure – It is still surgery. And because of its popularity, many doctors perform the procedure without the proper training or experience. So, to get started you must first find a suitable plastic surgeon to treat you.

Once you find this candidate, schedule a consultation. Here you will be able to learn more about the procedure by asking questions and stating your concerns. You will also be able to get a good idea of how this surgeon can help you attain the body you want. He should be able to provide visible images of how you will look following the procedure.

Okay, the months of planning and research have paid off, and facelift surgery is behind you. No doubt you are excited to see your new face and the results you’ve excitedly anticipated. But now is the time for patience because it takes time for recovery and healing. Understanding the recovery process will help you get through these hours, days, and weeks with little to no anxiety.

The First Day

When you wake after surgery, you will be in a recovery room. It is quite possible you will feel cold or nauseated. If you are cold, simply ask for a blanket; if you feel a bit nauseated, inform someone because there are medications that can help. You may also feel emotional, don’t worry, this is normal and will pass.

Expect your face to be tender and tight after you wake from anesthesia. You may also find yourself in surgical bandages that are large and fluffy. This dressing will be temporary and is replaced with an elastic wrap within 24 hours. You may also have drainage tubes to remove excess fluids and reduce swelling. These may remain for a few days.

Most facelifts are outpatient procedures, so, you will need to have someone with you to drive you home. You may also experience mild to moderate discomfort after the anesthesia wears off. Don’t worry, you will have been prescribed medication for pain and should take as directed. Antibiotics will also be prescribed to stave off infection.

The Next Few Days

As a rule, you should be up and active within a few days and can wash your hair after 48 hours.  Some patients stay overnight in a suite and are assisted in washing their hair the next morning.

Swelling and bruising are normal after surgery, and you can expect both during the healing process. Expect a gradual facial swelling for three days after surgery with the swelling diminishing afterward. You will also experience facial bruising so; you should not expect to realize your facelift results for at least two weeks.

Two Weeks After Surgery

You will be released to return to work or your normal responsibilities after two weeks. If needed, you can wear makeup. During these two weeks, it is important for you to walk around at least three to four times daily to promote blood circulation and prevent blood clots. Also, you may not lift heavy objects (including your children) until Dr. Dreyfuss informs you it’s okay.

No steam rooms, saunas or any related steam devices or products used to promote facial flushing. Also, avoid products containing niacinamide and niacin because they too promote facial flushing.

Abstain from alcohol and anti-inflammatory medications like aspirin and ibuprofen until Dr. Dreyfuss allows them.

Some facelifts involve mouth incisions which will restrict your diet. Make sure you understand what you can and can’t eat during recovery before you have surgery. An antiseptic mouthwash may be required for several rinsings daily.

Sleeping

Sleep with your head elevated above your heart for one week. This practice will help reduce swelling. Prop up multiple pillows and place a foam wedge (found in surgical supply stores) under your torso. You may also sleep in a recliner.

Red Flags

Although most facelift procedures experience no complications, all surgeries have some risk. Red flags to look for include:

  • Elevated body temperature
  • Redness
  • Excessive pain

If you experience any of these complications contact Dr. Dreyfuss immediately. For optimal recovery care, monitor your temperature regularly and make sure to take prescribed medications like antibiotics faithfully and as prescribed.

After Surgery Appointments

Expect to come in for your first visit after surgery the day after the procedure. Here, Dr. Dreyfuss may change your bandages. Any sutures to be removed will stay for at least five more days. You will also be encouraged to discuss any concerns at this time if for no other reason but to put your mind at ease.

You will have multiple after surgery appointments to check your progress and administer any necessary post-surgery care. Anything you wish to discuss during these visits is encouraged no matter how trivial or insignificant it may seem. Remember, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Enjoy Your Outcome

After a couple of months, you should be ready for primetime. Recovery is different for each patient, so an exact timeline for healing is unique to the patient. But within a few months, you should be ready to show off your revived facial appearance. You will enjoy a big event like a wedding or high school reunion so much more with a young, fresh, and rejuvenated facial appearance.

Advances in facelift surgery have been known to improve patients’ lives by resolving their cosmetic concerns. However, it’s crucial for the facelift candidate to have realistic expectations about the psychological and aesthetic benefits gained from the cosmetic procedure. Two important factors when you are considering a facelift are your candidature and attainable goals. With the wrong attitude and expectations, the outcome may disappoint you.

No scarring, a fantasy look, and perfect symmetry are common unrealistic outcomes which many patients stress entering the facelift process.

Finding the Right Mindset

Obviously, a facelift performed by a qualified and experienced surgeon can deliver striking results, have a positive impact on your appearance, and boost your confidence and self-esteem. Nevertheless, to assume a perfect outcome would be a great overestimation.

A perfect example is seeking a particular look which is well outside of your facial anatomy. Although improving your unique beauty and a youthful result are possible with a skilled surgeon, expectations outside your facial structure (like the look of a celebrity) does not bode well for your perception of a successful outcome. Also, because responses to surgery are different from patient to patient, expecting the results of other patients is also unwise.

Another problem occurs when patients choose facelift surgery to make them feel better about their lives. Because of some traumatic event or lack of self-regard, they believe a change in their appearance will result in a change in the way they feel about themselves. This way of thinking can be a dangerous precedent. Plastic surgery should not be confused with psychological treatment but rather a form of medicine to enhance your aesthetics, not your total mental outlook.

However, it is certain many patients attain a favorable outcome with emotional benefits. Patients who want to turn back the effects of aging are pleasantly satisfied with diminishing wrinkles and restoring facial volume. Their boost in confidence helps them in their professional and personal lives as well.

Where Lasting Results are Real

One area where a facelift does not disappoint is the permanence of its outcome. Although the procedure does not halt the aging process, it will turn the clock back about ten years in facial appearance.

Temporary treatments like Botox and Dermal Fillers are great facial rejuvenation treatments and have their place in aesthetic medicine, but the results are temporary and need additional injection treatments to sustain desired outcomes.

Fighting the Effects of Aging

Another area where a facelift can help facial aesthetics is in the fight against aging. Facial aging is inevitable, but controlling sagging skin and wrinkles is possible. So, if you are wondering what can be done to turn back the clock on your facial presence, a facelift has benefits you should consider.

However, the procedure will not make you look 18 again. Although you can expect to look a decade younger, many patients want to look like they do in their high school yearbook. This desire is not doable. The purpose of a facelift is to fight the effects of aging gracefully and add beauty and character to your aging process.

So, What Can You Expect from a Facelift?

Great Expectations is not only a novel from Charles Dickens but also a standard where facelift patients often hold their surgeon. However, reality tells us improvement is possible to the face you were born with, but cannot change it into something it is not. So, what benefits can you expect from facelift surgery?

Any patient contemplating facelift surgery should expect:

  • Fresher, tighter, and firmer facial appearance
  • A younger facial presence
  • Improved confidence and self-esteem
  • Diminishing negative effects of sun and wind exposure
  • Diminished wrinkles, lines, and creases
  • Results will be effective for up to ten years

Dr. Dreyfuss expects to deliver these benefits to you and your facial appearance – and you should expect them as well. But, if you dream of a face outside the realm of possibility or expect the procedure to change your entire life, you may not enjoy the benefits of your facelift surgery, but struggle with not achieving the goal that was unattainable.

For more information about what you can expect from a facelift outcome, please call Dr. Dreyfuss at 815-806-9400 to schedule a consultation or contact us here.

Okay, we know an Arctic blast is affecting much of the Midwest this winter. We understand the last thing women are thinking about now is slipping on their bathing suit or into their favorite summer dress. But we also understand a girl must prepare to look her best when the attire is more revealing. That’s why it’s not too early for you to start preparing for your summer body.

And a great way to do just that is to consider enhancing your breasts. If you have been unsatisfied with your breast appearance due to weight fluctuation, childbearing, or genetics, breast augmentation surgery can be the solution to your problem. With today’s technology, technique, and products, having the breasts you dreamed about is possible with minimal risk and great results.

Advanced Technology

Since 1964, silicone breast implants have come a long way. Today, advanced technology, safer implants, and innovative tools enable Dr. Dreyfuss to offer more natural-looking outcomes, while reducing complications, risks, and recovery time.

Although the implants of yesteryear had made many women pause when considering breast augmentation, those days are long gone. With the advent of the gummy bear implant (silicone implants which hold their shape) and other advancements, women have a more favorable opportunity than their mothers and grandmothers. The rare risk of leakage and a natural feel has attracted many patients to move forward with the procedure.

Additionally, advanced surgical technique and optimal incision placement have reduced many of the complications such as capsular contraction and scarring.

Technology advances include:

  • Ultrasound:  An MRI used to be the most common procedure to determine the breast’s health and proper implant type. However, today, an ultrasound is a less costly and less-invasive alternative which can help Dr. Dreyfuss examine the breast tissue surrounding the implant for quicker results.
  • Incision Technology: Improved technology and technique have greatly reduced the risk of scarring and improved the sensation in the breast tissue and nipple. Additionally, advanced therapeutic techniques make wound healing faster and reduce the visibility of scars.
  • Improved Tools: Modern technology provides several advanced tools which aid Dr. Dreyfuss in breast implant placement. For example, the Keller Funnel enables breast implant placement without Dr. Dreyfuss having to touch them. This tool allows for smaller incisions, less bruising and swelling, and reduced risk of infection.

Planning Your Summer Body

It’s important for women desiring breast enhancement to have a plan. Here are some important things to consider before having breast surgery:

Allow Adequate Time for Surgery and Recovery

Candidates must understand it may take weeks to recover from a surgical procedure like breast augmentation — plus more time for the results to look great and stabilize. To guarantee you are summer wear ready, give yourself time to recover from the procedure.

Hide Bruising, Swelling, and Incisions

Cold temperatures are perfect for recovery. It gives the patient an excuse to wear layers like jackets, sweaters, and overcoats. These added layers will help camouflage swelling, support garments, bandages, and healing incisions. Winter allows your body a period to fly under the radar while recovering.

Hibernate with No Guilt

Outdoor activities are not as frequent here in the Chicago area during the winter months. This break will allow you to avoid public outings while you heal. It will also allow you to avoid sun exposure which is not good for incision healing. It’s a great time to hibernate without much notice.

Also, with all the holiday festivities done and dusted for the year, the upcoming months are a great time to book surgery.

Benefits of breast augmentation surgery:

  • Aesthetic Benefits: Breast augmentation improves the feminine figure by reshaping your bust line, enhancing your breast size, and improving your body shape and contour. It enhances your body’s profile and defines curves leading to a more sensual presence. A perky and firm bust will enhance your summer wardrobe to be more striking and expressive.

  • Physical benefits: Breast Augmentation will also provide breasts which are more consistent with your body type. Optimal size and shape will allow for more symmetry and firmness which may diminish because of pregnancy, weight fluctuation, breastfeeding, or a mastectomy. It may also be more comfortable to have breasts which aptly fit your body.

  • Psychological benefits: Emotional improvement emerges because a younger and more feminine appearance will improve any woman’s confidence and self-esteem. This benefit will become abundantly clear during the warmer months when the improved body contour is evident in summer clothes and swimsuits.

  • Personal and social benefits: many studies have indicated a woman who has breast augmentation will experience improvement in their personal lives and relationships. Their social life will be better because they become more outgoing and confident. This benefit can affect their personal as well as professional relationships. Their social and professional opportunities will greatly improve.

Summarily, breast implant surgery is beneficial for every facet of a woman’s life.

 You May Need a Lift

A breast lift is a procedure which is designed to elevate breasts which droop or point downward. To determine if you need a breast lift simply look to see if your nipples are below your natural breast crease. A breast lift can be done concurrently with breast augmentation to improve breast firmness, size, shape, and elevation.

Whenever there’s an age-related question concerning breast augmentation, it always seems to focus on young women. The truth is, older women are seeking the surgery more than ever before because they want to regain the curves they used to have.

Getting breast augmentation in your 50s comes with different dynamics. Today, there are more and more women in their 50s that get breast augmentation. Their bodies have changed, and they have seen the benefits of implants during their more mature years when age, skin laxity, and gravity have affected them. Breast augmentation allows women of more mature years to age more gracefully.

What Happened to Your Breasts?

Several factors lead to sagging breast tissue. Stress, gravity, motherhood, and breastfeeding may cause significant changes to the shape and size of the breast. Other changes such as sagging, lumpectomies, mastectomies, or trauma have led to an unprecedented amount of women in their 50s who decide to get breast augmentation. So, that raises the question: what’s the right age to get breast implants?

Are You Too Old?

The answer is simple: adult women in good health can get breast implants at any time. Many older women realize amazing results with breast implants. Some women over 50 opt for breast implants after their mastectomy. Other simply choose breast augmentation for a boost in self-confidence and to make a positive physical change.

It’s a Different World with Breast Implants

In the past, women had limited options with breast augmentation; round, saline implants used to dominate the marketplace. Today, there is a selection of saline or silicone breast implants that are more in tune with natural body types.

Advancements in breast implant technology and surgical procedures have led to more women being open with the procedure because they offered better results and safer surgical techniques.

But Is It Right for You?

Older women should understand what breast augmentation can do for them. Realistic expectations will dictate that although their breast appearance will improve, breast implants will not restore the breasts they had when they were 21.

To determine if you are a good candidate, you need to consider your health – not your age! Because breast augmentation is surgery and all surgeries have a certain amount of risk, you should have a healthy immune system and no serious medical conditions.

You should be honest to your surgeon about the state of your health. You should be prepared to discuss your medical history and any prescribed medication you take presently.

Breast Lift

Most women over the age of 40 require a breast lift. Combining a breast lift with breast augmentation is quite common, and they allow women to achieve fuller, younger-looking breasts.

A breast lift is a better option if your main concern is sagging breasts and if you don’t mind a little loss of breast volume.

You may need a lift if:

  • Your breasts are sagging
  • Your nipples point downwards
  • Your nipples have become stretched

Concerns for Breast Augmentation Over the Age of 50
