The Pearl laser is an ablative skin resurfacing treatment that corrects superficial skin conditions like discoloration, fine lines, and uneven texture on the face and neck.
During resurfacing with the Pearl laser, the outermost layers of the skin surface are removed as your surgeon guides it over the targeted area. The underlying layers of the dermis are heated as well. For the entire face and neck, this process takes roughly 30 minutes. Topical anesthetic is used to provide a comfortable treatment experience.
Adult patients of any age can undergo this procedure. We recommend it for patients with light to medium skin tones. Those that exhibit the following conditions (of moderate severity) will benefit most from Pearl laser resurfacing:
- Fine lines
- Discoloration, uneven skin tone, or pigment problems
- Sun damage
Recovery and Results
Downtime with the Pearl Laser is quicker and easier than other skin resurfacing procedures. When the sun damaged layers of skin get removed, the body responds by forming a natural dressing over the treated area, which peels off after about 4 days to reveal new, rejuvenated skin. This will have a similar appearance to sunburn, and may limit social activities somewhat.
Ointment is required to moisturize the skin during recovery, and clothing should be worn that will provide sun protection. Patients are advised to wait at least 3 days before applying makeup or sunscreen. Initial results can be seen within a week; substantial results are evident after two. After peeling and healing is complete, rejuvenated skin will be revealed. It will be smoother and brighter and generally more attractive. Most patients require only one treatment.
