Pregnancy can be one of the most rewarding experiences life experience. Unfortunately, this life event can have drastic consequences on the body, such as sagging breasts, a protruding belly, and stubborn fat deposits.

The mommy makeover is a series of plastic surgery procedures performed with the goal of an overall rejuvenation and restoring youthful body contours.

The most common procedures included in a mommy makeover are breast augmentation, breast lift, tummy tuck, and liposuction. However, your mommy makeover will be unique and personalized to you; we understand that patients have different experiences and needs after pregnancy and childbirth. Other procedures like the thigh lift or even a facelift can be easily added to a mommy makeover for comprehensive rejuvenation.

Candidates for a Mommy Makeover

While the treatment planned is named for the areas that many patients would like to change or enhance after having a baby, natural aging and weight fluctuations can create similar issues for any patient. If you have stubborn fat, loose skin around the abdomen, and drooping breasts, you can also benefit from an individualized body lift treatment plan. In general, patients should meet the following guidelines:

  • In good health and completely recovered from any medical treatments provided during the process of childbirth
  • Not planning additional pregnancies, as these can reverse the effects of plastic surgery procedures
  • Have the time necessary to devote to recovery
  • Realistic expectations regarding surgical outcomes

Customizing your Treatment Plan for a Better Body after Baby

Breast size, shape, and position can change from weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Similarly, pockets of stubborn fat can remain long after any baby weight has diminished. While these physical changes are normal and common, they can make patients feel less confident. If you’re interested in achieving improved body contours and uplifted, fuller breasts, a mommy makeover is the perfect solution. Surgeries recommended to meet these goals include:

Breast Lift

When the breasts drop or sag, a breast lift restores their former position on the chest wall. Breast lifts are commonly sought by patients who have had one or more children and patients over 40 who have noticed changes in tissue firmness over the years. During the surgery. Dr. Dreyfuss employs strategic incisions designed to elevate the nipples, reshape breast contour, and remove excess skin to enhance the breasts’ appearance.

If your nipples fall below your natural breast crease, a breast lift may be recommended as a part of your treatment plan.

Breast Augmentation

When breast size, shape, and volume are affected by breastfeeding and pregnancy, breast augmentation can be the optimal way to regain your pre-pregnancy breast appearance. Placement of implants creates firmer breasts and better projection. If you liked the increased size and volume you experienced during pregnancy, implants can help you regain this aesthetic. With a vast selection of implants available, each patient can achieve the results best suited for their body type.

Breast Reduction

While many women seek augmentation, there are plenty of instances where weight gain and body changes created by pregnancy leave patients with oversized breasts. When breasts are too large, comfort and appearance can be an issue. A breast reduction is designed to reduce breast size and relieve discomfort like back pain and bra strap indentions. It also allows the patient to have a more extensive selection of clothing options; you no longer have to order a larger size simply to accommodate the width and projection of breasts.

Reduction mammoplasty increases patients’ physical comfort, creates better body symmetry, and improves confidence.

Tummy Tuck

Pregnancy and aging can often lead to a sagging belly and a bulge around the midsection. A tummy tuck can dramatically flatten the abdomen and slim the waist by removing excess fat and skin. The tummy tuck can also reverse the separation of muscles in the abdominal wall by tightening them. After a tummy tuck, you should also have the additional benefit of an improved muscle tone.

Liposuction

Hormonal changes due to pregnancy and childbirth can leave stubborn pockets of fat around the thighs, hips, abdomen, love handles, knees, back, arms, neck, and chin. Liposuction contours these areas by gently removing the fat and contouring the body so that it’s sleek and toned.

Your Chicago Mommy Makeover with Dr. Dreyfuss

Your transformation starts with a consultation from board-certified surgeon, Dr. David Dreyfuss to determine if a mommy makeover is the best way to address your aesthetic concerns. This meeting is also an opportunity for Dr. Dreyfuss to understand what you hope to achieve and what parts of your appearance are causing the most issues. Dr. Dreyfuss will recommend procedures to meet your goals, explain the surgical plan in detail, and provide instructions on preparation and recovery.

After creating a surgical plan with the patient’s input, Dr. Dreyfuss will schedule surgery. General anesthesia is necessary to provide as comfortable an experience as possible. Surgical time depends on which and how many procedures are required to achieve desired results. Patients who combine multiple body and breast procedures can expect a longer treatment time compared to those who are only scheduled for a single surgery.

Dr. Dreyfuss will book a series of follow up visits to ensure your recovery and healing are progressing as expected. He will provide additional instructions on recovery and easing back into your normal activities.

Resuming Activities: typically the patient can return to work within three weeks. In most cases, the patient can continue normal activities including exercise and strenuous work after six weeks.

Mommy Makeover FAQs

Pregnancy can reverse your mommy makeover results. While an abdominoplasty and breast enhancement surgery can remove loose tissue and add volume where you want it, pregnancy affects abdominal muscle support and some breast surgeries can affect your ability to breast feed. If you are interested in expanding your family, it’s best to wait to seek body contouring and breast surgery.

You should avoid sex for a minimum of two weeks or until Dr. Dreyfuss suggests you can resume intimacy. Because incisions require enough time to heal, physical contact can impair the recovery process.

Although most mommy makeovers focus on the body, some patient wishes to include facial surgeries and skin rejuvenation procedures. The focus on a mommy makeover is improving overall aesthetics and help patients regain self-confidence and esteem – this can mean different things for different women.
